Frequently Asked Questions
1. How long will it take to make my gown perfect?
The ideal time frame is two months.
Of course, life events can interfere with the best plans, so Mollie is used to the unexpected, and she is prepared for any event. She will happily accommodate rushes when possible.
2. How much will this cost?
An estimate will be provided at the time of the first fitting or consultation. Just like having a car fixed, a mechanic needs to see it and diagnose it. Mollie will meet with you and your gown, and then she will go over various cost options.
A note of interest- Shortening the hem on a gown can cost as little as $55!
3. What if I gain or lose weight?
Yes, the unexpected happens. If you gain or lose weight during the fitting process, don't stress. You won't be the first or the last.. Mollie is prepared for the unexpected (and the expectant too).
4. How long has Mollie been doing this work?
Mollie has been sewing since she was a child. In high school she made many of her classmates prom dresses. Early in her career her passion became Bridal and Formal attire, and for decades has concentrated exclusively on this area.
5. What undergarments should I have with me or what do I need for my fitting?
Bring the undergarments you already have, but do not run out to purchase or search for specific undergarments. Mollie has everything that might be needed for the fitting and she can guide you on what will give you the desired result for you and your gown. Please bring the exact shoes that you will be wearing with your dress.
6. Who should come with me?
You are welcome to bring one or two people. This is a home studio, so space for a crowd makes it cozy, but we know you want to share this experience with friends and family. After all, this is your time to shine!
7. How many fittings will I need?
Whatever it takes until it is perfect. For a wedding gown, there are generally 4 fittings, spaced out 1-2 weeks apart. Bridesmaids and Formal wear generally require 1 to 2 fittings. Mollie does require a final try on at the last fitting to insure you are satisfied.
8. Do you charge for the fittings?
No. Diagnosing the gown, then reviewing what has been done, is part of the process.
9. Do you charge for the initial consultation?
No. (a personal note from Mollie..) I believe there is no harm in kicking the tires. I want you to feel comfortable with your beloved dress, and with the person who will be working on it for you. I will do my best to listen to you and to learn what your vision is. This is a no-obligation consultation and estimate for the work you are considering.
10. How long will each fitting take?
Usually 30-45 minutes. An hour is allotted for each fitting in the event we need more time.
11. What are your hours?
Since this is a home studio, Mollie works by appointment only. Regardless of how good the lighting is, natural sunlight is best for seeing details, so daytime appointments are preferred. Of course, that is not always possible, so Mollie diligently works to fit within your existing schedule. There are some Saturday available too.
12. Do you work on clothing for bridesmaids, fathers, flower girls, and others?
Mollie works primarily on wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, flower girls and mothers of the bride. Mollie does not do men’s tailoring.
13. Can you give me a quote over the phone?
No. Mollie really needs to see the dress on you, and to see the construction of your unique garment to evaluate the extent of stitchery needed before providing a cost quote.
14. Do you steam or hand press the dress?
Steaming is what a store does when the dress first comes out of the box to take the initial wrinkles out. It is not always optimal for the finished result, but every fabric has its own characteristics and therefore requires a different method of pressing. Mollie meticulously hand presses AND steams each dress so that it looks the best it can for you.
15. How much money should I bring with me?
None. Your dress is enough of a deposit. We can discuss a payment schedule if you wish. The balance is not due until you are happy with your gown at your last fitting.
